Chapter 270 - 267: The CEO’s Death Order
Linden mouthed something to her. Luckily, they were on the same wavelength, and Poppy Vance understood immediately. She quickly tried to salvage the situation. "Oh, uh, Clara, are you talking about tomorrow? Yes, tomorrow is my birthday."
"Is that so?" Clara narrowed her eyes, her voice cold.
She had already heard what Poppy said before and instantly understood this was another one of Seth Quinn’s schemes. Poppy and Linden were acting as his willing accomplices.
"Yeah, yeah, of course! Hehe, I was just so excited I even forgot my own birthday," Poppy explained with a nervous laugh.
"Alright, I get it. You can get back to what you were doing. I’m hanging up," Clara said, no longer in the mood to talk. She hung up as soon as she finished speaking.
"Hello? Hello? Clara, let’s just talk a little more! Clara?" Poppy called into the phone a few more times before shaking her head helplessly at Linden.
Linden glanced at her, then spoke to Seth Quinn on the phone in a similarly defeated tone. "Ugh, we messed up."
Seth Quinn hung up without a word. Then he turned his phone off completely.
He knew she would be furious and call to demand an explanation, and to tell him to cancel the plan for her to return to the city tomorrow.
If he didn’t answer his phone, he could pretend he didn’t know. Then tomorrow, he could just proceed with the original plan and have Chase Childs pick her up.
Poppy put her phone down and looked at Linden. "What did Brother Quinn say? Why did we have to lie to Clara and say tomorrow is my birthday?"
Linden gave a roguish grin. "He didn’t say a thing. But what reason could a man have for wanting to meet up with a woman? It’s always about one thing. Still, poor Seth. He has to come up with one excuse after another just to get intimate with his own wife."
With that, he leaned forward and pinned Poppy underneath him again. "Let’s forget about them and continue where we left off!"
"Ah! Hehe..." Startled by his sudden move, Poppy let out a small shriek before breaking into giggles.
But soon, all other sounds melted away, replaced by soft panting and a chorus of moans.
...
The moment Clara hung up with Poppy, she furiously dialed Seth Quinn’s number. She was going to demand to know why he’d lied to her. ’Do I look that easy to fool? Does he think I’m that stupid?’
’And I’ll tell him not to bother sending someone for me tomorrow. I’m not going back.’
But an automated voice informed her, "The number you have dialed has been switched off." Clara’s brow furrowed. She stubbornly dialed again, only to get the same result. The phone was still off.
She stopped trying. ’Fine. It doesn’t matter. Even if he comes to get me himself tomorrow, I’m not going back.’
...
The night passed. She was up early the next morning for makeup and filming. Once she got busy, Clara completely forgot about what had happened the previous night.
She had just finished filming her scenes for the day and removed her makeup. As she was about to head back to her hotel room for a nap, her phone rang.
Seeing it was an unfamiliar number, she hesitated for a moment before picking up.
"Hello?"
"Ma’am, this is Chase Childs. The President sent me to pick you up." Chase was direct. "I’m already here. Have you finished filming, Ma’am?"
"No!" Clara replied curtly, about to hang up.
"Ma’am!" Chase quickly stopped her. "Ma’am, please, you’ve got to help me out here. The President gave me a direct order. If I don’t bring you back, he’ll fire me."
’He was in a bind, after all.’ The President had given him an ultimatum: if he couldn’t bring the missus back, he shouldn’t bother coming back at all.
