Chapter 1099 - 1101: Home Is No Longer Warm
Gong Ruini hurried off to find Cao Na; of course you had to ask the local snake when it came to language schools.
Even though Cao Na majored in foreign languages, asking around for a good Russian teacher shouldn’t be hard for her.
Cao Na knew there was definitely something up if Gong Ruini took the initiative to come find her.
She just hadn’t expected it to be asking whether there was a good Russian teacher.
"Of course there is. I used to have good connections over there, and the language I learned was Russian."
"Some of the teachers have even been there. But why are you learning it?" In her mind, of course it was Gong Ruini who was going to learn.
No matter how she thought about it, she couldn’t figure it out. Gong Ruini wasn’t going over there to study abroad, so what was the point of learning this?
"Good. When the time comes, help introduce us." On this matter, Gong Ruini wasn’t going to stick her neck out.
When the Miao Family came to Beijing, she wasn’t planning to have too much contact with them anyway.
Gong Ruini knew this couldn’t be hidden for too long; she just hoped she could keep it under wraps until next year.
"Uh, okay." Cao Na didn’t understand why she was asking on someone else’s behalf, but seeing that Gong Ruini would personally step in to help ask, she knew that person must be pretty close to her.
"Find a stricter teacher." She was worried that out of kindness, Cao Na might find someone who wasn’t too harsh.
A teacher like that might be popular with students, but for Gong Ruini, who was counting on them to go back and help her make money after they finished learning, strict requirements were a must.
Listening to the rough outline of what needed to be learned, Cao Na did a quick calculation in her head. "This is going to be hard."
Normally you needed at least a year or two to cover that amount of material, and she wanted it learned within six months. That level of difficulty was really no joke.
Cao Na was dying to know who had pissed off Gong Ruini so badly that she’d set someone up like this.
Seeing how curious she was, Gong Ruini thought for a moment. "It’s for business too."
Oh, for business. So they’d already started making connections with the former big brother. That stunned Cao Na.
She knew those few families were truly crazy in every way. As long as it was legal and made money, they’d throw themselves at it.
Cao Na had really been looking forward to seeing them reach that level. She hadn’t expected them to take this kind of step so soon.
She knew some things weren’t her place to ask, so she didn’t keep probing, but she kept it firmly in mind.
"I’m looking forward to starting a Russian-learning craze." Cao Na really, sincerely meant it.
The language tutoring market was doing well. Because she kept such a tight grip on quality and only hired teachers who were strict and highly professional, the students who enrolled all made huge progress.
Those students would help recommend the place, and the number of people signing up just kept climbing, which made Cao Na ridiculously happy.
"Ni Zi, you don’t know. Lots of teachers are all smiles when they see me." As a serious student, Cao Na already got the smiling treatment from teachers.
But she hadn’t expected that in the entire English department, there’d be that many teachers who treated her so well.
"If I want, I can be recommended straight into a master’s program." A master’s degree! That had never even crossed her mind before; she’d only thought about maybe becoming a translator after graduation.
But seeing how things were turning out now, she knew her future wouldn’t be bad. "Thank you, Ni Zi."
"What are you thanking me for?" Just mentioning the English tutoring school put Gong Ruini in a good mood too; the income was really huge.
"If only we had more languages." Gong Ruini honestly didn’t get why everyone was rushing to learn English like lemmings.
Sure, English was the global lingua franca, but learning some Japanese or French or German on the side wouldn’t hurt. That way you’d have a better edge when job hunting.
"Exactly." There were only so many English teachers. No matter how hard she racked her brains, there were only that many teachers she could actually use. It was honestly pretty frustrating.
Because every student she had to turn away with regret was a walking God of Wealth.
"You can tell them that learning a niche foreign language will bring even more benefits. I think they’ll consider it."
"And we should also look into the proportion of foreign-invested companies and which countries they’re from."
"Only then will we have more persuasive power."
"Otherwise, if we just say, ’Go learn Japanese’ or some other language, we’ve got no data to back it up." The more she thought, the more excited Gong Ruini got, completely ignoring that some people were still waiting on her reply.
She just sat in a corner of the teahouse with Cao Na and started hashing it out. Since she was already out, she might as well get everything done in one go.
Cao Na had known all along that Gong Ruini would nail this; just listen to that solution. She didn’t know how effective it’d be, but it was at least worth a try.
Having known Gong Ruini for so long, she really did have all kinds of faith in her. "Ni Zi, if we can pull this off, let’s go open a school in Shen City next year."
"Then I can buy a place over there." Just thinking about being able to buy an apartment somewhere else had her all kinds of hyped up.
"My sister is driving me crazy right now." Every time she thought about how Cao Li came home looking all pitiful, she just got mad.
It was that pitiful face that had fooled everyone at the beginning. She clearly knew she shouldn’t feel any sympathy for that look, but she couldn’t stand that some people assumed others would soften, so she kept putting it on.
"Now whenever I buy property, I go to Jin City. Otherwise, if they find out I bought another place, they’ll say I don’t care about sisterly affection." Her dad had actually helped her out at first.
But ever since he saw how well the school was doing, Cao Bin’s attitude changed. He’d often go on about how sisters working together would be unbeatable.
Every time she heard that, Cao Na just wanted to blow up. "Last time my mom even directly told me to give my nephew Feng Xin some shares."
"If I open that door once, who knows how much I’ll have to give in the future." They said home was a warm harbor, but that was really not the vibe she got at all.
"If it weren’t for having to go back to see my grandpa, I honestly wouldn’t want to go home."
No way, they were already coming for shares? Once again, Cao Li’s shamelessness refreshed Gong Ruini’s lower limit. "How do your parents not stop and think how much you’ve put into this?"
Back then, all she’d done was offer a suggestion and put in a bit of money. Everything else had been handled by Cao Na herself.
You could say that getting the school to where it was now was absolutely her achievement.
"Didn’t they say you were messing around back then?" When things were toughest, not only did no one support her, Cao Li had kept making snide comments.
Now that the school was doing well, she was trying every way to stick her hand out. "You’d better be careful. Once you give an inch, your sister might push step by step. In the end, it won’t just be your shares; if she really goes ruthless, what if she poaches your teachers?"
"The only reason she hasn’t is because she doesn’t have money." It wasn’t like Cao Na didn’t know what was on Cao Li’s mind.
"And if she really tries something like that, I’ll go make a scene at her workplace. I’ll go find my brother-in-law."
The couple’s faces were thick as walls, but they did both genuinely want to move up and get promoted.
"They’re not stupid. They have scruples about me too." That was something that made Cao Na secretly very glad.
"My sister just wants money so she can get promoted. Oh right, she might be changing positions soon; otherwise her title would never change." She remembered how smug Cao Li had looked the last time she came back.
"She even said she’d ’look after me.’ I really don’t know where she gets the nerve."
Oh, "look after" Cao Na? More like look after Cao Na’s money.
