Chapter 356 - 272: A Ship Flying a Pirate Flag
The flat-headed man spent some time treating his injuries, then took his phone and lay down on the spring mattress in the corner of the small wooden cabin.
After applying some Healing Medicine, the wound on his chest felt much better, but it would still take some time to heal completely.
’If I hadn’t been carrying the seeds of a mutant vine this time, there’s no way I would have escaped from that woman...’
’I’ve been hiding my identity in Rongcheng for several years without ever being discovered by the Superpower Administration Bureau. If no one had sold me out, they never would have found where I was living. Who the hell betrayed me?’
Lying on the spring mattress, the flat-headed man replayed the scene from not long ago in his mind: Wang Jing gravely injuring him with a single blow.
If his friend—the one who had been promoted to a cadre position—hadn’t given him the mutant vine seeds for self-defense, he never would have been able to escape from Wang Jing with his level of strength. The thought of being captured by Investigators sent a wave of fear through him.
’Dammit, if this Superpower I awakened didn’t have a usage limit, I could have escaped easily without even needing to use the mutant vine seeds...’
The Superpower the flat-headed man had awakened, Shadow Traveling, allowed him to sneak into the South District Prison and leave with ease, completely unnoticed.
The Superpower was indeed powerful, but unfortunately, it had a daily usage limit.
He had already used up all his daily uses when he infiltrated the South District Prison earlier. That was why, when the Investigators showed up at his rental house, he was forced into a direct confrontation.
As an elite member of the Canglan Society’s intelligence division, his main job was gathering information. Combat wasn’t his strong suit, and if he had the choice, he would generally avoid fighting an enemy head-on.
In the pitch-black cabin, his muttering could be heard from time to time through the crack in the door.
The gravely injured flat-headed man lay on the spring mattress, replaying the night’s events in his mind. Gradually, the exhaustion took over, and he drifted off to sleep.
...
SPLASH, SPLASH, SPLASH...
In the distance was a boundless, azure sea. Waves rolled in from the horizon, crashing against the reefs and sending up splashes of snow-white foam.
The sky was clear for miles. Sunlight shone down on the golden, soft sand. Facing the sea, the oncoming ocean breeze made the clothes of the tourists on the pier flutter.
"Ms. Chen, is everyone here? When is the boss arriving?" a young woman in her early twenties asked Ms. Chen, a chubby woman of nearly fifty.
This Ms. Chen was an employee of the yet-to-arrive shop owner. Her job was to lead the tourists who had signed up for the diving tour to the coastal pier to wait for the boat.
"Please be patient. I just called our boss. He’s on his way here with the boat now and should arrive in about ten or fifteen minutes. You can all go take some pictures on the beach first," the chubby Ms. Chen explained with a smile.
After hearing this, the tourists dispersed, looking for spots on the beach ahead to take souvenir photos.
"Lin Li, where are you going?" Su Yue called out as she was about to head to the beach, noticing Lin Li had turned to walk away.
"The sun is pretty strong today. I’m going to wait under that tree for a bit," Lin Li said, pointing to a huge, flourishing coconut tree by the roadside in the distance.
"Don’t be in such a rush to cool off under that tree. Come to the beach with me first and help me take a few pictures. I’ve been in Qiong City all this time and I still haven’t taken any good photos!" Su Yue said.
"Er..." Lin Li thought for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, fine. But my photography skills aren’t great, so don’t blame me if you don’t like how they turn out."
"I won’t! Now, come on..." Su Yue said with a smile, then pointed to a spot on the beach in the distance. "There’s no one over there. Let’s go take our pictures there."
"Okay."
The two of them left the pier and walked onto the beach. Treading on the soft, fine sand, they slowly made their way to a large reef.
When they reached their destination, Su Yue handed her phone to Lin Li. She then turned her back to the boundless azure sea, spread her slender arms, and faced Lin Li, her pretty face beaming with a radiant and captivating smile.
CLICK.
Lin Li, holding Su Yue’s phone, took a single photo of her from the front.
When Su Yue saw that Lin Li had stopped moving after taking just one picture, the captivating smile on her face instantly turned into a look of exasperation.
"Lin Li, why did you only take one? Take a few more! Don’t stop until I tell you to."
"Er..." Lin Li nodded. Seeing the brilliant smile return to Su Yue’s face, he immediately started finding the right angles and snapped six or seven photos in a row. CLICK. CLICK. CLICK.
After he took six or seven pictures of one pose from different angles, Su Yue started to switch things up.
She turned to face the sea, presenting her back to Lin Li. She struck a variety of poses for him: flicking her hair, putting her hands on her hips, squatting down to hug her knees, and sitting on the reef with her legs to the side. A whole assortment of poses unfolded before his eyes.
’This woman sure has a lot of tricks up her sleeve...’ Lin Li, whose own photo poses were always very simple, grumbled inwardly as he watched Su Yue constantly strike one beautiful pose after another.
’The only way to end this photoshoot sooner is to take more pictures that Su Yue is happy with.’
In his haste to finish the photoshoot, Lin Li kept running around to change his position, searching for the right angles to photograph Su Yue.
